Pateti is the festival of the Parsis (Zoroastrian community) is celebrated on the eve of New Year of the Zoroastrian calendar.
Pateti comes in the month of Navroj by the Parsis.On Pateti day, the parsis visit the fire temple or agiary. Other parsi families and exchange gifts and sweets. The parsis worship Ahura Mazda, symbolised by fire. The parsis on this day, promise to live with good thoughts, use good words and perform the right actions.The word pateti is derived from Pazend patet, meaning ‘repentance’. The President of India, Smt Pratibha Patil, greeted the nation on the “joyous occasion” of Navroz, the beginning of the Parsi New Year.Pateti is the Parsi new year’s day. The last day of the Pateti come to fall on the first day of the New Year. The significance of Pateti is that it is the day to dwell on the wrongs or sins one may have committed the previous year, and atoning for them.
