Vat Savithri Puja is a fasting ritual observed by Hindu married women in Northern states of India. On this day (Vat Savitri Vrat on Purnima the date is June 25, 2010) married women observe for health and longevity of their husbands. In 2010, dates of Vat Savitri Puja are 12th June and 25th June. Vat Pournima is celebrated on the full moon day of the month of Jyeshta on the Hindu Calendar, which falls in June on the Gregorian Calendar. Women pray for their husbands by tying threads around a banyan tree on this day. It honours Savitri, the legendary wife who escaped death for her husband’s life.
