Hindus observe fasting and performing Pujas on Mondays and read Sawan Somvar vratha katha in Sawan Month. or Sawan Somvar Vrat, is the fifth month of the Hindu calender and very highly auspicious vrat observed on every Mondays during Shravan Maas (Month) in North states in India and specially observed in south indisn states like Andhra Pradesh, and Karnataka. According to the Hindi panchang 2010 Sravan Somwar Vrat will be observed on the dates in North India are – July 26, August 2, August 9, August 16, and August 23 in 2010. In Marathi, Kannada, Gujarati, and Telugu Panchangam Shravana Somvar vrat 2010 dates will be August 16, August 23, August 30, and September 6.

The month of Sravana is considered the holiest month of the year. Each Monday of this mahina, known as Shravan Somvar, people worship the lord Shiva with holy water, day and night. It is considered auspicious to wear a rudraksha in Sawan month. All Mondays celebated worshipping Lord Shiva along with Goddess Parvati, Lord Kartikeya, and Lord Vishnu.
