Ganesh Chaturthi 2010 date, celebration begins on Sept 11

Ganesha Chaturthi also known as Vinayaka Chaturthi is the Hindu festival of Ganesha, the elephant-headed son of Shiva and Parvati, who is believed to bestow his presence on earth for all his devotees in the duration of this festival.

Ganesha Chaturthi is 10-day long festival and it is observed with great festivity and fervor.GaneshaChaturthi is the birthday of Lord Ganesh who is widely worshiped as the god of wisdom, prosperity and good fortune. Ganesh Chaturti or Vinayak Chaturthi festival is observed in the Hindu calendar month of Bhaadrapada, starting on the shukla chaturthi. GaneshChaturti date falling on 11th of September in 2010. VinayakaChaturthi festival lasts for 10 days, ending on Anant Chaturdashi (fourteenth day of the waxing moon period). VinayakaChaturti celebrated all over India, it is most elaborate in Maharashtra, Goa, Gujarat,Orissa , Karnataka, Tamil Nadu and Andhra Pradesh. Outside India, Vinayak Chaturthi is celebrated widely in Nepal and Tamil Hindus in Sri Lanka.
