Durga Ashtami 2010, Durgashtami, Puja is on 15 Oct 2010. Wishing all members here a very Auspicious ’Durgashtami’ ! Durga Ashtami is the eighth day during Nine-day festival of Navratri and is one of the most auspicious days.
Durgashtami day is dedicated to Mata Durga. Goddess Durga killed the demon Durgasura, the son of Ruru and made the Earth free from evil forces. On this day Goddess Shakti is decorated as Maha Durga in Vijayawada Kanaka Durga temple and some other temples in Souther part of India. Durgashtami is the most important day to any devotee to worship the Goddess and be blessed with her grace. In Andhra Pradesh, a special regional festival called Bathukamma Panduga (Bathukamma Festival) is observed. Bathukamma Visarjanam (nimajjanam) is performed on Durgashtami.
