Durga puja 2010 and Pooja dates

2010 and Pooja dates – is the biggest festival in Bengal. This year the Goddess Durga arrives on an Palanquin and departs on Elephant. DurgaPuja is an annual festival celebrated in India and the greatest festival of Bengal.

Durga Pooja is celebrated during the month of Ashwin of the Hindu calendar which comes on during the month of late September or mid-October. DurgaPooja is schedule according to the Hindu Calendar. The days of Puja are calculated on the basis of sun rise and sun set. DurgaPuja refers to all the six days observed as Mahalaya, Shashthi , Maha Saptami, Maha Ashtami, Maha Nabami and Bijoya Dashami. The dates of DurgaPooja celebrations are set according to the traditional Hindu calendar and the fortnight corresponding to the festival is called Debi Pokkho. Debi Pokkho is preceded by Mahalaya the last day of the previous fortnight Pitri Pokkho and is ended on Kojagori Lokkhi Puja.
