Jain festival – ‘Paryushan Parva’ celebrated in the auspicious month ‘Bhadrapad’ (Mid-August to Mid-September) of the Hindu calendar extends from the fifth day to fourteenth day of the bright fortnight. India celebrate Teacher’s Day on 5th September, since 1962.

It is the birthday of Dr. Sarvepalli Radhakrishnan [5 September 1888 ], who was the second President of India. It is considered a “celebration” day, where teachers and students report to school as usual but the usual activities and classes are replaced by activities of celebration, thanks and remembrance. At some schools on this day, the responsibility of teaching is taken up by the senior students to show appreciation for their teachers.

Kisna Janmastami festival always falls within mid-August to mid-September in the Gregorian calendar. In 2010, Kisna Janmastmi will be celebrated on 2 September. While the Rasa Lila recreates the flirtatious aspects of Krishna’s youthful days, Govinda Pathaks or Dahi Handi celebrate the God’s playful and mischievous side, where teams of young men form human pyramids to reach a high-hanging pot of butter and break it.

While the Rasa Lila recreates the flirtatious aspects of Krishna’s youthful days, Govinda Pathaks or Dahi Handi celebrate the God’s playful and mischievous side, where teams of young men form human pyramids to reach a high-hanging pot of butter and break it.
